We are seeking motivated post-docs for our ERC-funded project on the role of neuromodulators in associative learning.

The topic: role of the cholinergic and dopaminergic systems in learning. Basal forebrain cholinergic cells precisely respond to reward and punishment – is this precise response required for learning and plasticity? Cholinergic responses scale with the unexpectedness of the reinforcement – are they related to reward prediction error? How are they similar to and different from dopaminergic neurons known to control reinforcement learning? Techniques include chronic extracellular recordings in behaving mice, optogenetics, cell type identification, modeling, Alzheimer model mice.

What we can offer is the thrill of the chase for the yet elusive role of one of the four major neuromodulatory systems, in a stimulating scientific environment, within the walls of a renowned institute with top-notch core facilities. Last but not least, Budapest is an awesome city!
